Norbert Leonard Caron, age 81, passed away May 19, 2019. Predeceased by his wonderful wife Carol of 54 years. Proud Father of Paul (Colleen), Mark (Lori), James (Liz), and John. Even prouder Grandfather of Sarah (Alex) Sover, Max (Samantha), Rachel, Joe, Luke, Cole, and Eva and Great Grandpa of Ashlynn and Lily. Predeceased by his sisters Jeanette (Paul), Marge (Arthur) and Myra (John). Dear older brother to Will (Rosemary) Caron, and Tim Caron.
Norb was born in 1937 in Garden, MI of the Upper Peninsula to parents Howard and Leona and then moved with his family to the East Side of Detroit. He graduated from St. Charles Borromeo High School in 1956 and joined the Army so after being assigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the 1st Airborne Battle Group 501st Infantry Company C. After two years of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, he returned to Michigan and enrolled in Greene’s Barber College and graduated in January 1960. In July 1961, he married Carol, also a St. Charles alumus.
In 1961, he purchased a single unit commercial building and opened Norb’s Barbershop, a mainstay for 41 years, in St. Clair Shores with Men’s cuts starting at $1.50 and Pepsi’s for 25 cents. Conversations, however, were free. With all four sons playing hockey within the St Clair Shores Hockey Association, Norb spent many weekends and nights coaching youth hockey. His love of youth sports continued with watching his grandkids in various sports after his coaching career had ended. A “Yooper” at heart, Norb loved fishing with his friends Gus and John, hunting with his brothers Will and Tim, while consuming meat pies, chopped meat, and “hot drinks” on cold Michigan nights in the Caron family tradition.
Visitation Friday May 24th from 2-8 pm at Bagnasco-Calcaterra Funeral Home, 25800 Harper Ave, St. Clair Shores. Instate Saturday 9:30 am until time of Mass at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
