Melvin August Antak, Jr. was born in Butte, Montana July 12, 1941 to Melvin and M. Aileen (Murphy) Antak. The family lived in numerous locations in Montana, Oregon, Utah and Ohio before settling in Michigan in 1955. Mel attended Lincoln High School in Warren; he was active in academics, sports and drama. graduating in 1959. He served on the City of Warren Junior Council his senior year. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army serving in SE Asia during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge from the service he worked for the US Postal Service while attending Oakland University earning his Bachelor Degree in Education. After graduating, he taught at Centerline St. Clement School. He married his love, Cynthia Visjak on October 25, 1968. They lived in Madison Heights and settled in St. Clair Shores. They were blessed with a son, Jeremy (wife Bridget) and two grandchildren, Audrey and Nolan. He and Cindy loved to go on "adventures", traveling overseas as well as the U.S. She preceded him in death in 2014. While education was his passion it was not always his career. He earned two more degrees, including Metal Model Maker before returning to education. He retired from The Academy of Lathrup Village in 2005. He was an avid fisherman, loved to read and watch his favorite sports.
Loving brother of the late Toni (Richard) Kubinski, and Aileen (James) Jaworski. Mel was loved and will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. His many friends will miss his kind and friendly soul.
The family would like to extend our sincere Thanks to all of his neighbors and friends. We can never repay you for all of your love and support during these last few years.
Private family services will take place at a later date with inurnment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI
