On Sunday, August 5, 2018, Marguerite (Smith) Janssen passed away peacefully at her home in St. Clair Shores, MI. Marguerite was 92, born March 22, 1926 to Bert Smith and Helen Dzwonkowski. She married in 1947 and has seven (7) Children. Marguerite is survived by her children: Vickie (the late Richard)Jensen of Draper, UT; Christine Young of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kenneth (the late Linn) Jansen of Westland, MI, Michael (Donna) Janssen of St. Clair Shores, MI, Paul (Julie) Janssen of Boca Raton, FL, Elaine Janssen of St. Clair Shores, MI, and Diane (Fred) Holloway of Venice, FL. She has nine (9) grandchildren and eighteen (18) great grandchildren. Marguerite was pre deceased by her parents, daughter -in-law Linn Janssen, son-in-law Richard Jensen, granddaughter Emily Jensen, and great-grandson Aaron Jensen.
Marguerite's faith was important to her. As a child, she attended St. Matthew (Detroit, MI). In adulthood, she was a long time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel (Detroit, MI) and then St. Athanasius (Roseville, MI). Marguerite truly lived her faith and strongly believed in the power of prayer making it an important and integral part of her life and always remembering the needs of others in her daily prayers.
Marguerite grew up on the east side of Detroit and graduated from Denby High School. During World War II, she worked in Washington, DC for the Defense Department. Years later, Marguerite was employed and retired from Kelly Services where she made lifelong friends. While she was the Office Manager of the Kelly Services Warren, MI office, it was the largest and most profitable office in the United States.
Marguerite had a beautiful welcoming smile. Everywhere she went people were drawn to her warmth and the twinkle in her eyes. She enjoyed fine dining as well as excursions to Hamtramck for Polish food with her good friend Rich Wieczorkowski. Marguerite loved listening to big band music, reciting silly rhymes, and traveling. She cherished the time she spent with her children, extended family members, and friends. In her younger years, she also enjoyed dancing and had been a member of Pinochle club. Marguerite liked to shop had a great sense of humor, an outgoing personality, a generous spirit, and a HUGE heart. If you look up the word mother in the dictionary, you would probably see a picture of Marguerite. It's what she did best. She was quick to use her wonderful mothering skills on everyone.
Marguerite will be sorely missed by her family friends (as well as TJ Maxx, QVC, and HSN) Memorial Services have not been finalized at this time.
