Tribute

John William Lacina, a resident of St. Clair Shores since 1968, went to the Lord on July 25, 2020. He was born on June 13, 1931 in Omaha, Nebraska to John William Lancia, Sr. and Bessie (Mertlik) Lacina. He graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1949 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1954. From 1954 to 1956, he served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. He began his career at Union Pacific Railroad as a Traffic Manager and moved to the Detroit area in the early 1960’s. In 1963, he married Edith (Dembry) Lacina and they remained together for the rest of his life.
In 1967, John earned his law degree from Detroit College of Law and was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 1968. He worked as a property attorney for Land Title Abstract and Lawyer's Title from 1969 until his retirement in 1994. In retirement, he was involved in a number of charitable activities, including serving as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Angela Catholic Church where he was a longtime member.
John is survived by his wife Edith, children Michael, John (Ali) and Peter (Jan) and four grandchildren. Instate Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10:00am until the time of our Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 21100 Madison Street, St. Clair Shores. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
