Leininger, Caroline (nee Calcaterra), May 6, 2021, age 91. Beloved wife of Lowell. Loving mother of Denise (Patrick) Flinn and Mark (Christopher Mangiapane) Leininger. Proud grandmother of Sarah (Rodney) Craig. Sister-in-law of Darlene Calcaterra. Step-grandmother of Ashley (Scott) Forest, Caitlin (Ryan) Berry, Bradley (Erin) Flinn and Margaret Flinn. Caroline is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Lucia, her siblings Theresa (Arthur) Battani, Rosemary (Lloyd) Lackey, Louis (Evelyn) Calcaterra and Joseph (Shirley) Calcaterra and her brother Dominic. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Caroline was born the third child of six children. She was born to immigrant parents from Cuggiono Italy. She met her husband of 68 years on a street car while riding home with her close girlfriend Connie Fiesco. She had two children Denise and Mark and her granddaughter Sarah. She was a member of the Lombardy Society. In addition she worked at Violet Elementary School in St. Clair Shores for many years as a lunch mother and also volunteered as a library aid at St. Margaret’s School. Furthermore she was on active member at San Francesco Church. She was known for her sense of humor and headstrong personality, her love for gnocchi and risotto. Caroline was truly a beautiful gift from God.
Visitation at the St. Clair Shores Chapel of the Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass, Monday, May 17, 2021 at San Francesco Church, 22870 South Nunneley Road, Clinton township, MI 48035, Instate at 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 10:00 AM. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery.
