Darlene “Dar” M. Hathaway
Mrs. Darlene “Dar” M. Hathaway, age 66, of Roseville, passed away December 11, 2017 at St. John-Macomb Hospital. The loving daughter of the late John and Orpha Jennings. She was married to the late Geoffrey Hathaway, and together were the proud parents of, and survived by, three beautiful children, Paul Hathaway (and wife Debbie), David Hathaway (and wife Bethe) and Shannon Hathaway.
“When Shannon was born, our dad, Geoff, raised us up high outside the hospital window so we could see her because we were not allowed into the hospital. We were very excited to get a baby sister! As we were growing up mom and dad liked taking us children on long drives in the country. “
Dar loved spending time with her grandchildren Alex, Shawn, Alicia and Jacob. She was very excited and loved her first and only great-grandchild, Shea. Dar was a hard worker, working as an injection mold press operator at Johnson Controls until she retired. She loved to refinish furniture in the garage, especially her cherry bedroom set. She loved to drive her children crazy by listening to Barry Manilow (her favorite), Neil Diamond and Tom Jones music over and over! She enjoyed drinking Beaujolais wine, only drinking it in the fall because that is what she and her husband, Geoff, would do when they were together. Dar loved to read literature by Mark Twain and the philosopher Kahlil Gibran. She also loved to play Parcheesi with her family. She liked her dogs, though she said that she did not when you asked her, but she always had one in the house and the most recent one is Sami the min-pin. Dar was an engaging and loving homebody that enjoyed the simple things in life, such as having her coffee at the kitchen table, preferably with friends and family.
Dar was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Denise and Daryl Jennings.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Bagnasco and Calcaterra Funeral Home, Saint Clair Shores. Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nursing staff in ICU/CCU for taking such great care of mom during her brief stay. The compassion displayed by these remarkable individuals is truly amazing and was our ray of sunshine in our darkest moments.
